One of the most uncompromising and original American filmmakers, Jon Jost has made dozens of keenly observed features and shorts since the 1960s, ranging from experimental work to essay films to improvised narratives. After decades of working in 16m and 35mm (including the widely acclaimed All the Vermeers in New York [1991]), Jost has turned for the last several years to digital video. The Archive is proud to present the local premiere of Jost's latest feature. In this improvised feature shot in Italy, two women try to comfort a third, whose husband has left her. As much tone poem as narrative, La Lunga Ombra reflects the disquiet that pervaded Europe in the wake of September 11, 2001.
