Pac-10 Softball in Central Park

Date: May 10, 2008
Details: Another great turnout last weekend. Check out the pictures from one week's game!

***Joe let someone borrow one of the club's gloves and they didn’t get it back to him. If you can bring it next week so we can share with others that would be greatly appreciated.***

PAC-10 softball season continues this Saturday, May 10th at Central Park's North Meadow Field #2 from 12:30pm until 3pm. Check out the Central Park website for the exact ball field location.

If the weather looks questionable, call Central Park's ball field conditions hot line to confirm whether the fields are open. If they're open we're playing. Call (212) 628-1036 then press 1, then 2, then 808 for North Meadow fields.

Games will continue throughout the Spring and Summer in Central Park.

Dinner for 12 (or more) Strangers - Make New Friends and Connections!

Date: May 17, 2008
Details: The next edition of the NYC Bruins’ Dinner for 12 Strangers will take place on May 17, 2008 at 7pm in the Upper East Side home of the lovely and talented UCLA alum Jan Nguyen. Traditionally, this has been a great venue for Bruins - and friends of Bruins - of all ages to get together and share a meal, network, and exchange stories. The informal potluck gathering features “food you can eat in your lap” to encourage mingling amongst the attendees.

If you would like to participate, please RSVP with the following information:

1. Your name, year of graduation, and your guest’s name (if applicable – max of one guest)
2. The type of dish you would like to bring, i.e. main, side, salad, appetizer, dessert, drink, wine, utensils
3. The name of your favorite song with artist

Respond quickly, seating is limited. This event usually fills up fast!

For those of you unfamiliar with Julie on a person level, you may know her work. She has been instrumental in guiding the NYC Bruins activity schedule which includes coordinating football and basketball game watchings, the book club, Broadway outings, roadtrips to nearby Bruin sporting events, Dinner for 12 Strangers, and much more. If you enjoyed any of these events in the past, you'll probably want to stop by and wish her well before she moves back to Los Angeles.

The 4th Annual All University of California Happy Hour

Details: It may be the 4th annual, but we've only skipped one year since 2003. It's time again to join fellow Californian's at our annual All University of California Happy Hour. We're happy to invite alumni from each of the UC schools. That's right Berkeley, Davis, Irvine, Los Angeles, Riverside, San Diego, San Francisco, Santa Barbara, and Santa Cruz alumni are all welcome. We want to welcome all undergraduate professional/graduate alumni. And no, we didn't forget UC Merced, they just don't have any alumni in the NYC area yet.

Scholarship Selection Committee
Date: TBA: June, 2008
Details: Want to make a difference in someone's life? Join the Scholarship Committee and help select the New York UCLA Club's Out of State Alumni Scholar. The club awards a $1000.00 scholarship each year to a tri-state student entering UCLA's freshman class. Committee members screen applications and interview candidates during the month of June.

PAC-10 Family Day at the Bronx Zoo

Date: July 12, 2008
Details: Attention Bruins! Please join the NYC Chapter of the UO Alumni Association in hosting the PAC-10 Family Day at the Bronx Zoo — a landmark event and venue featuring over 4,000 animals from around the world. This package includes a lunch reception, discounted parking and all-access passes to upgraded exhibits and attractions such as the Asia Monorail, Zoo Shuttle, Skyfari, Children’s Zoo, Butterfly Garden, Bug Carousel, and the Gorilla Congo Exhibit. Cost is $35 per person.
