Richard Gatti began studying piano at the Juilliard School of Music at the age of 11. But his jump into medical school made him a leading genetics researcher and scholar. He arrived at the UCLA School of Medicine in 1974, and is the founder and co-director of the Diagnostic Molecular Pathology Laboratory in the UCLA School of Medicine. He is a member of the UCLA Brain Research Institute and Mental Retardation Center.
