Itinerary

Day 1: Wednesday, June 24

If you've opted for the group flight, join your UCLA tour directors at Los Angeles International Airport for our non-stop flight to Medford, Oregon. Transfer to Ashland via private motor coach. Get to know Stephen Dickey and your fellow travelers during a luncheon at Larks in the Ashland Springs Hotel along with Stephen's first lecture. Afterwards, check in to the Ashland Springs Hotel, conveniently located just two blocks from the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Tonight we will see our first play, Much Ado about Nothing on the outdoor Elizabethan stage.

Day 2: Thursday, June 25

Continental breakfast is included daily at the hotel. This morning, enjoy a perennial favorite: the backstage tour led by one of the festival's actors. View the festival's three theaters and go behind the scenes to see staging and production areas, and costume shop and sets. The tour also highlights the history and technology of the festival and includes admission to its Exhibit Center.

Enjoy lunch at Beasey's on the Creek and Stephen's second lecture on Henry VIII.

This evening's performance Henry VIII will be on the outdoor Elizabethan stage.(B, L)

Day 3: Friday, June 26

Enjoy breakfast and our third lecture on Macbeth at the hotel. The rest of the afternoon is free for you to enjoy Ashland and its surrounding beauty.

Late this afternoon we will get a taste of the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest on a jet boat dinner excursion on the rushing and scenic Rogue River. Guides skipper us through the rushing rapids' in safety and comfort on wide-beamed jet boats. A delicious family-style dinner will be served for our group in the midst of this awe-inspiring scenery. We will return to the hotel at 8:30 p.m., with the rest of the evening yours for relaxation.(B, D)

Day 4: Saturday, June27

Enjoy continental breakfast this morning at the hotel. Afterwards, an actor from the Festival will join us for an intimate question and answer session. Lively discussions are sure to ensue as we critique and discuss the two performances we have seen thus far.

Early evening, we will head to the highly regarded Winchester Inn restaurant for our farewell dinner. (B, D)

We will see our last play of the week, a matinee, Macbeth, staged in the indoor Angus Bowmer Theater.

Day 5: Sunday, June 28

After a leisurely continental breakfast, we leave for the airport for our return flight home. While our time in southern Oregon will be over, the memories of Ashland, a place where culture and nature come together, will linger for many years.  (B)
