Mark Moldwin is on the faculty in UCLA’s Earth and Space Sciences department and the Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics. His research focuses on understanding how the dynamic sun influences the Earth’s space environment. Among his awards are the National Science Foundation’s CAREER Award and the Research Corporation’s Cottrell Scholar Award.

About the Trip

On July 22, 2009, the longest total solar eclipse in more than a century will occur, lasting for an astounding six minutes. Join UCLA Earth and Space Sciences Professor Mark Moldwin for an opportunity to observe this dramatic natural phenomenon and see cultural highlights of China, including the Great Wall, the Forbidden City in Beijing, the famous terra-cotta warriors in Xi’an and the modern and bustling city of Shanghai. An optional four-day cruise down the Yangtze River concludes this fascinating program.
