Phil Rundel is Distinguished Professor of Biology in the UCLA Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. His research centers on the conservation biology and biogeography of the five areas of the world with Mediterranean-type climate regions and on the ecology of tropical rainforest ecosystems in Costa Rica and Southeast Asia. Rundel is a senior investigator in the Center for Embedded Networked Sensing, a National Science Foundation science and technology center operated through the School of Engineering and Computer Science at UCLA. He has traveled extensively throughout the world as part of his research, including multiple trips to Australia, and he has written or edited six books, including popular field guides to Southern California.
