Nile Green is a social and cultural historian of the Persianate world, which includes the modern day regions of Iran, Central Asia, India and Pakistan. The author of several books and dozens of articles, he has written widely on the history of Sufism, as well as on traditions of Persianate architecture and literature and the history of Islamic India, Iran and Afghanistan. Before joining UCLA, he taught at Manchester University and from 2002-06 was Milburn Research Fellow at Oxford University. Over the past 15 years he has accompanied many tours to the Middle East and India. He is currently chair of the UCLA Central Asia Initiative.
