Ted Huters has been teaching Chinese language and literature at UCLA since 1997. He spent two years in Beijing as director of the University of California Education Abroad Program there, and has taught in two different programs in Shanghai. His book, Bringing the World Home, analyzes the reaction to the coming of the West to China in the novels and essays written in Chinese in the period between 1895 and 1920. His current research project is on the development of modern Shanghai culture in the period after 1860.
